Embryo - A Step Beyond Divinity

Italian Embryo are back with their fourth album named “A Step Beyond Divinity”, the first to be released under Spanish Art Gates Records label. With lyrics based upon different phases of Leonardo da Vinci’s life this album leads to twelve tracks technically elaborated and with an overwhelming weight.

The album starts with “The Same Difference” that shows us the guidelines for this work, a symphonic death metal based in demolishing drums and strong guitar always well accompanied by the synthesizer whose background sound helps creating the image of different musical landscapes. Despite that continuity we can listen throughout the twelve tracks the band still managed to find space to include other prog elements (“Vanguard For The Blind” and “Painting Death”) or even post-prog (“Bastard Of The Brood”), strengthening the technical aspect; to notice that even in the fast and straightforward parts (for instance in “Overwhelming Your Disgust”) we can notice a cohesion with the all due to the carefulness they put in the arrangements making the simple to sound grand. As Leonardo was a genie in several areas also this tracks derive in several ways, whether in intensity or in ambiance. Somewhere in the middle there’s a short and disturbing “Solitaria 1519” preceding “Leonardo” with a strong entrance and powerful pace as well, with a soft intermezzo but rapidly exploding in a new spiral of brutality. Another track demonstrative of that changeovers is “Witness Of Your Life”, with more highlight to the drums and gloomy flanking of the keyboards.

At fourth record Embryo elevated their sound quality, as a result of all the caution they’ve prepared this album and the established partnerships (the beautiful art cover was created by Seth Siro Anton (SepticFlesh), not forgetting all the experienced gained by sharing stages with bands like Keep of Kalessin, Melechesh, Nile or Tribulation. A name to attain in modern death metal scene.
